Changing It Up A Little

If you are reading this, there is a good chance that you are subscribed to TheUnshakableMan.com blog. There have been a few changes happening in my family and one of the changes is that my wife and I are starting a new website together.

Not wanting to thin myself out to much, I am going to focus my attention on the new site. I encourage you to come and check it out at Our360Family.com. I’m looking forward to see where my family goes because of it.

Hope to see you there,

Darrin

Do You Know What You Believe?

What do you believe? Knowing what you believe can be a little overwhelming if you really think about it. But if you can’t answer that question, do you really believe anything? Some default to the only answer they know, whatever was taught to them in Sunday School. Sunday School can be a very good thing but I’m sorry, I don’t think telling God I learned everything I know about Him back in Sunday School is going to cut it. I mean you can think it is, but I guess you will find out one day.

The writer of Luke understood the importance of being “certain of the truth of everything you were taught” (Luke 1:4). Take the Christmas story for instance. No where does it say that Jesus was born in a stable or a barn. He could very well have been born outside the door of the Inn that was full and placed in a trough that the animals ate out of on the side of the street. Of course, He could have been born in a stable. But the point is that without thinking about it we believe what was taught to us in Sunday school or even in a Christmas story that was on TV.

I’m picking on the Christmas story but I hope that you get the point and take a look at the other parts of your life, I know I am. Don’t become analytical in the negative sense, but bring yourself to the point of willing to be wrong in the hope of becoming right.

So many men run away from church because of a bad experience and say they can’t find one that suits them. Just in case you didn’t know, the byproduct of a group of people is that problems will arise. The church is full of people that aren’t perfect; that’s kinda the point. Do you need church to know God… I would argue absolutely not. But He does ask His people to gather together. For reasons beyond my understanding God has chosen to use the global church to be His body. And within that local gathering God uses fellow believers to help work things through us and out of us so we reflect and become more like His son, Jesus.

I encourage you to search out and know what it is that you believe. Just like Luke 1:4 talks about, be certain about everything you were taught. Really, it might be the difference between life and death.

Feel free to disagree with me, I’m willing to be wrong so I can be right.
